The S&W Model 2 Army is the first .32 caliber revolver was a prefer backup weapon to the average American Civil War solider, many soldiers on either sides of the war were either issued with this or privately purchased this for self-defense, George Armstrong Custer was known to have a pair of cased and engraved S&W Army Model 2 revolvers.
This particular Model 2 was famously used by a Japanese Samurai, Sakamoto Ryoma during the Teradaya Incident. According to the letters sent by Ryoma to his family after the incident, Ryoma was attack by 10 spearman sent by a Shogunate to either arrest or assassinate him, he then defended him using a Smith & Wesson Model 2.
