Airsoft and paintball is often compared because their basic concept and premise are similar.  Both are designed for games where players shoot at one another in a competitive format.  Paintball has been the dominant format for many years in the Americas, Europe, and many parts of the world.  But more and more players have converted over to Airsoft for good reason.  We will first talk about Airsoft and the pros and cons of the sport, and then we will do the same for Paintball.  Finally, we will then do a direct comparison between the two and explain their similarities and differences.

What is Airsoft?

They use compressed air or gas to propel plastic BBs, which are typically 6mm in diameter. Airsoft guns come in various types, including pistols, rifles, shotguns, and machine guns, and can be powered by spring, gas, or electric motors.

Airsoft originated in Japan in the 1970s as a way for people to enjoy shooting sports without the strict regulations and prohibitions on firearms ownership in the country.  Airsoft fulfills a fantasy element where players can fulfill their curiosity and experience of owning and operating a real firearm despite regulations that prevent them from doing so for real. It is precisely this fantasy element that has seen Airsoft spread to other parts of the world and gained popularity as a recreational activity and sport. Additionally, high-end paintball guns and airsoft guns can be extremely accurate, but they can also be expensive.  But in general, airsoft wins in this department.
